11 Collection P rofessional technical literature with main subject areas: architecture, urban development, art, civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mechanics, motor and rail transport, computer science, technology science, also library and information science, economy, philosophy, geography, linguistics, biology, history. Books, journals, standards, patents, catalogues, databases, doctoral theses. E-collection: full-text eBooks, eJournals, on-line general and subject databases and services.

12 To join the Library Bring your Student ID card and certificate from your Department and any document with a photo (e.g. passport) to one of the issue desks and register to the Library Please bring the Student ID card with you each and every time you come to the Library as you will need to show it to the staff at the reception desk

13 Reading Rooms

14 First steps Leave your overcoats and bags in the cloak-room Give the staff your Student ID card or Library card Tell the staff about any non-library materials (books, journals) you are bringing with you Check the OPAC for shelf-marks of the books you need Take a sit according to the number you receive from the staff

15 Savoir vivre at the Library Help us to maintain a quiet atmosphere in the Library! Please switch mobile phones to silent before entering the Library and do not take calls within the library Noise should be kept to a minimum No eating or drinking is allowed

16 Main Reading Room You have an open access to most documents Find the book in the OPAC, check the shelf-mark and take a book to your table If you need materials from the closed stacks, fill in the library form You can access Polish standards and doctoral theses here ILL Loans will wait for you here Pcs (access to the Internet) and a workstation for the sight impaired

17 Current Journals Reading Room Open access to current journals Previous years: find the title in the OPAC. Check its location and a shelf mark. Fill in the library form (your name, Student ID card number, title of the journal, volumes/years) and give it to the staff You may have up to 5 volumes on your desk Pcs (access to the Internet) Note that some titles/volumes are in the main reading-room. Most of old volumes, published before 1980, are at the Branch Library /DS-4/

23 Computers There are Pcs at the following reading rooms: Main Reading Room, Journals Reading Room, the Reading Room for Researchers, BWM Reading Room, Information Services There are new workstations for the sight impaired at the Main Reading Room and the BWM Reading Room To use these Pcs you will need to register You can use Microsoft Office there and have access to all the on-line resources the Library subscribes to You can download or print there any documents you need Wireless connection (Eduroam network) available at the Main Reading Room and Information Services Dept.

24 Registration at the ”computer reading rooms” To use Pcs in the reading rooms you need to register: bring your Student ID card and other photo ID – e.g. your passport or College ID Individual registration to each reading room is required Time limit: 2 hours/day; 40 hours/ year in each reading room (can be extended) Reservation possible

25 Printing and photocopying Photocopiers are available in the reading rooms. They can do A4 and A3 size copies and have reduction and enlargement facilities. They are operated by a rechargeable plastic card which can be purchased from the dispensers on the wall by the photocopier in the Main Reading Room only. Cards cost 5.00 PLN which includes 0,50 PLN worth of copying or printing. Copies cost 0,20 PLN for A4 black and white photocopy or printout. Cards can be recharged as required

26 Notebooks and cameras You can use your notebooks in each reading room (electrical connection provided) In the Information Services Department and the Researchers’ Reading Room you can cable-connect to the Internet You can also have wireless connection via Eduroam in Main Reading Room and Information Services Dept. See: www.pk.edu.pl, select: ”Sieć bezprzewodowa” www.pk.edu.pl to download a certificate You can take digital photos of library collection items

27 OPAC Books You can use the catalogue to search for books by author, title or subject. This will give you the book's location and shelf-marks. The catalogue also tells you the number of copies we have and the loan status of each book. Journals You can search for printed journals by title using the Library catalogue. The titles of electronic journals (e-journals) are not included in the Library catalogue. E-journals are listed at and can be accessed through the E-resources section of the Library web site (e.g. Journals A-Z).

30 The issue desk At the issue desk you can borrow, return and renew items You can borrow up to 15 items Most books can be borrowed for 2 months Tourist guides can be borrowed for 1 month Language text books can be borrowed for 1 year Items can be renewed as long as no-one else requests them

31 If you have ordered a book Check your account to see if the item is already waiting for you in the lending room Go to the issue desk which you had selected when ordering a book The book will wait for you 7 days Remember to bring back the book to the same issue desk from which you borrowed it

The Library catalogue Your Library account Full text electronic journals and books Databases to help you find out what articles have been written about the subject you are researching Other useful web sites for your subject Note that many of the electronic resources, e.g. e-journals and databases, can be accessed only from the CUT domain

33 What if the material you require is not held at the CUT Library? There are many other options open to you: Finding out where material is held: Our Library web site has a page of links to the catalogues and web sites of other libraries. You can use the Union Catalogues to find journals in Poland or abroad. You can use other academic libraries in Cracow according to their regulations. Interlibrary loans: If the material you require is not held in any local library, you can apply for an Interlibrary loan. 34 Be a responsible Library user Please return or renew items promptly, especially if someone else has requested them Failure to return items on time will result in fines charged by the Library (0,20 PLN per item per day) You may also be charged the replacement cost of the items Fines on overdue items can be currently checked on-line on your library account

35 To join the Library Register to the Library at the issue desk In order to register to the library you need to show: your Student ID card a certificate from your Faculty any document with your photo (passport or college ID card) Bring the Library / Student ID card with you every time you visit the Library as you will need to show it to the staff at the reception desk

36 Staff at the Information Services Department will try and answer any query you may have. Whether you need help to identify and find appropriate information, assistance to use electronic resources or simply want directions to the photocopiers, no question is too simple or too complicated!
