2 Introduction  Maps are important for daily lives.  It is never too soon to learn how to use a map so that you can always find your way.

3 Objectives  Students will be able to express their knowledge about maps  Students will understand the importance of maps  Students will apply the use of new vocabulary in order to read a map

4 Objectives (cont’d)  Students will analyze their own personal surroundings  Students will synthesize the relationship of neighborhoods, cities, states  Students will evaluate where destinations are related to one another

Learn vocabulary of maps Game: Word Search Brief overview of a neighborhood map (Frog Hollow) Tuesday Day Two Review neighborhood map and previous lesson’s vocabulary Cartographer speaks to class Brief overview of a city map (Hartford) Wednesday Day Three Review of city map in more detail Field trip to Traveler’s Tower in Downtown Hartford Compare/contrast neighborhood and city map Brief overview of state map Thursday Day Four Students utilize their understanding by piecing together a map. Examine whether students can get from various locations Evaluation of curriculum
