5. Application Programming Languages Each has benefits and drawbacks ASP/ASP.NET –Widely supported –Can be expensive to code/debug PHP –Usually used as part of LAMP systems (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) –open source so cheap to obtain –Needs to be tailored/lack of support?

Your Storage Space In lab –Each machine in C1-2 (and open access) has IIS on it and you have access to the web folder - C:\Inetpub\wwwroot –I will give (temporary!) administrator rights during lessons for using IIS admin console You will also have access to your own student area on the Multimedia server

The Multimedia Server - http://cet- web-01.cet.bolton.ac.uk/[acs username] Available internally and externally (using the VPN) via http://cet-web-01.cet.bolton.ac.uk/[acs username] where [acs username] is your ACS student name Set up is –A Windows 2003 server –Windows Media Server –Runs IIS supporting ASP Coldfusion MX PHP –50MB of webspace for each student
