Juggernaut Team 3 Completed Design Review Becca Arvanites: Structural Design Mark Egan: Structural Analysis & Stability Karl Kulling: RC Operator/communications & Propulsion Chris Savage: Stability & Structural Design Dawn Wheeler: Propulsion & RC Communications

Why a Four-Balloon Diamond Design? Benefits:  Advantageous payload  Stability in all directions  Vectored Thrust

Control Systems  Vectored Thrust: one servo controls pitch of motors, another servo controls yaw of motors  RC control (human factors)

Aerodynamic Analysis  Maximum Thrust (from table): 1.4N total from 2 large motors  Mass: 1.2-1.4kg  Maximum Acceleration = Thrust/Mass =.9-1m/s 2  Terminal Velocity = 1-1.2 m/s  Time Estimate: 90-130 seconds

Design Evolution  Reshaping control assembly to allow room for propellers to turn  Motors mounted under control assembly instead of on top  Extra bracing required on control assembly  Psychological evolution: new improved team name! <-- motor mount prototype

Conclusions  Designed for stability and payload rather than aerodynamics/speed  Building left: attach motor mount to fuselage, balloon attachment net  Testing: controls response, practice using rc controller
