3 Process: Setting Goals & Accomplishments Create a community-based planning process Focus on expected benefits for student learning not technical accomplishments Create processes for everyone to own the problems and solutions that emerge, beginning with the vision Document and publicly share successes, challenges and emerging questions

4 Measurements & Communication Collect data: on student learning on school climate use of technology Use data to: improve instruction make informed decisions refine assessment Report progress: to teachers to students & parents to policy makers to stakeholders grade level tests climate surveys 7 dimensions A comprehensive assessment program measures what students learn, how well plans were executed, and how stakeholders feel about it. A comprehensive assessment program informs instruction, planning, policy development, investment, and is frequently reviewed. A comprehensive assessment program reports progress frequently in a variety of media using indicators that are meaningful to stakeholders.

5 Components of a Comprehensive Assessment Program Goals that articulate expected, measurable results focused on student learning Baseline data to provide current reality and gap analysis Assessment strategies and tools aligned with expected student results Everyone takes responsibility for assessment Expectations for periodic assessment and public communication and reflection on next steps Budgets for staff and time to conduct assessment

6 Communication District Communication Publish a district progress report to the community at least quarterly Ask media partners to publish annual reports of progress Hold an annual meeting and let kids tell their stories Write a regular newspaper column and highlight results Make regular reports to the Board Produce videos & brochures about model classroom results and key infrastructure projects School Communication Publish a progress report to parents at least quarterly Highlight results at open house Hold a “Technology Night” every spring and let students demonstrate their enhanced abilities Encourage public demonstrations of students incorporating technology in every subject area Find parent technology advocates to lead the way Make all communication useful and understandable Encourage feedback and improvement
