7. SVT Review, 07/08/06Rene Bellwied7 Hardware / slow controls issues RDO boxes need to be moved off the TPC wheel to be accessible. Starts this year. Cabling manpower from SVT, Dave Lynn, OPS group. If RDO box fails we need to remove it, reset it, test it, mount it back. Presently: Dave, Future: OPS group plus SVT person. We need a better slow controls interface into the STAR SC system. We need to move off of SUN box. We need to understand the interface and usage between monitoring and database better (e.g. temperature control) We need a more stable water cooling system. We need better ‘Laue’ plots.

SVT Review, 07/08/06Rene Bellwied8 Interest in SVT and graduate student level Based on the list there could be as many as five graduate students from five institutions who will get there theses based on SVT data (some strangeness, mostly heavy flavor). If STAR decides to run AuAu rather than dAu this number might be realistic. For a dAu run the number of topics is more limited, and the number of students would adjust accordingly. I don’t think we are short on students or institutions. We are short on hardware and detector software expertise.
