What is iPad “The iPad is a line of tablet computers designed, developed and marketed by apple Inc. Primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, and web content.” 5

Difference iPad  Hard ware:  Screen and input:  The display responds to other sensors an ambient light sensor to adjust screen brightness and a 3-axis accelerometer to sense iPad orientation and work in three orientations (portrait, landscape-left and landscape-right). 6

Cont…  Connectivity:  The iPad can use Wi-Fi network from Skyhook Wireless to provide location information to applications such as Google Maps. The 3G model contains A-GPS to allow its position to be calculated with GPS or relative to nearby cell phone towers; it also has a black plastic accent on the back side to improve 3G radio sensitivity. 7

Cont…  Audio and output:  The iPad has two internal mono speakers located on the bottom-right of the unit. In the original iPad, the speakers push sound through two small sealed channels leading to the three audio ports carved into the device. 8

Cont…  Power and Battery:  The iPad uses an internal rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery. The iPad is designed to be charged with a high current using the included 10 W USB power adapter. Apple claims that the battery for both generations of iPad can provide up to 10 hours of video, 140 hours of audio playback, or one month on standby. 9

Cont…  Storage and SIM:  The iPad was released with three capacity options for storage: 16, 32, or 64 GB of internal flash memory. All data is stored on the internal flash memory, with no option to expand storage. Apple sells a camera connection kit with an SD card reader, but it can only be used to transfer photos and videos. 10

iPad  Software  Applications:  The iPad comes with several applications, including Safari, Mail, Photos, Video, YouTube, iPod, iTunes, App Store, iBooks, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Contacts, and Spotlight Search. Several are improved versions of applications developed for the iPhone. 11

Cont…  Digital Rights Management  The iPad employs Digital Rights Management intended to control certain software including TV shows, movies, and apps and prevent its transfer or use outside of Apple's platform. 12

Cont…  Jail breaking:  Like other iOS Devices, the iPad can be "Jail broken", allowing applications and programs that are not authorized by Apple to run on the device.  Censorship:  Apple's App Store, which provides iPhone and iPad applications, imposes censorship of content. 13

Usage: Business Education Music 14

What is iPod “The iPod is a portable media player designed and marketed by Apple and launched on. The product line-up includes the hard drive-based iPod Classic, the touch screen iPod Touch.” 15

iPod  Hardware  Connectivity:  The dock connector also allowed the iPod to connect to accessories, which often supplement the iPod's music, video, and photo playback. 16

Cont…  Accessories:  Many accessories have been made for the iPod line. A large number are made by third party companies, although many, such as the late iPod Hi-Fi, are made by Apple. Some accessories add extra features that other music players have, such as sound recorders, FM radio tuners, wired remote controls, and audio/visual cables for TV connections. 17

Cont…  Audio performance:  The third-generation iPod had a weak bass response, as shown in audio tests. Similar capacitors were used in the fourth- generation iPods. 18

Software  User Interface:  iPods with color displays use anti- aliased graphics and text, with sliding animations. All iPods (except the 3rd- generation iPod shuffle, the 6th generation, and iPod Touch) have five buttons and the later generations have the buttons integrated into the click wheel. 19

Cont…  iTunes Store:  The iTunes Store is an online media store run by Apple and accessed through iTunes.  File storage and transfer:  All iPods except for the iPod Touch can function in "disk mode" as mass storage devices to store data files, Unlike many other MP3 players, simply copying audio or video files to the drive with a typical file management application will not allow an iPod to properly access them. 20

Conclusion “Like iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled by a multi touch display a departure from most previous tablet computers.” 23
