Rates of youth unemployment and progression Schools CEIAG responsibility without resources University and Business activity available Coordination and difficult access creates gaps Lack of school flexibility Impact can be one-off HE and employment landscape changing - do schools understand? Peer and community influence can stifle aspiration CEIAG begins after GCSE choices made. SMEs represent many employers but can't resource activity Funding for dedicated staff in schools? Quality and depth of destination data? Student credit for employer engagement work? Business links to students/parents difficult

3 Research says ……….. Ofsted 2013 - Employers, schools and colleges must do more in partnership together. DfE 2014 - employers a voice in the classroom Lord Young 2014 - A new national volunteer network of ‘Enterprise Advisers’, coordinated by the LEPs, to work closely with school heads National Careers Council 2014 - no national system for young people to access careers advice Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission, 2014 - identify career goals early and provide excellent careers advice

5 The pilot…………. Build capacity to support delivery of the benchmarks Test the impact of the benchmarks on student outcomes over 2 years and beyond Identify barriers to delivering the benchmarks and help to remove them Create a sustainable model that can be replicated in other parts of the country

6 The pilot………….. Based in the NELEP area Up to 14 schools and 2 FE colleges Significant funding from the Gatsby Foundation and NELEP Built from existing planning Facilitator role Research evaluation
