2 PROCESS SPEC. REVIEW General Comments: – Composite Affordability Initiative (CAI) Has Similar Goals. – Shared CAI Database Is in Work, Presentation at Last Mil-17 Mtg. – USAF Very Interested in Making Composites More “Usable” Specific Comments: – 1.1- If References Such As Mil-17 Changes, How Will These DOT/FAA Specs Be Changed? – 3.1- May Be Difficult to Capture All Design Features in a Discriminator Panel. Maybe List Details Where Such a Panel Can Be Limited or Not Used When It Is Not Worth the Effort. – 3.1- FAI, Each Part? Feel That More Explanation of When to Perform This Inspection Is Needed.

3 PROCESS SPEC. REVIEW Specific Comments: – 3.3- Add Porosity in “Coupons Typically Excised Include:” – 3.3- Again, FAI on Each Part? Needs to Be More Clear. – 5.3.1- Add Explanation of Third Party Training, When Can a Fabricator Rely on Third Parties and to What Extent. – Table 1: Add Record Keeping Responsibility. – 5.3.2- Need to Add Type of Bagging For Frozen Storage, and Inspection of Integrity of Bags of Frozen Materials. – “Complete Records….” Reference Q.A. Section. – Table 2- Add Inspection of Storage Bags Under Storage. – 5.3.4- Should Be More Specific About What Constitutes “Clean” Environment, Maybe Specify e.g. ISO 9.

4 PROCESS SPEC. REVIEW Specific Comments: – Table 6- Add Debulk, Staging & Sealed Bags in Storage of Materials – 5.3.6.4- “Plies are debulked as specified applicable.” – 5.3.6.7- Debatable That Completeness of Cure is Necessary For a Fabrication Shop to Measure. – 5.3.6.8- Debatable Point That Recording ALL Machining Parameters is Necessary.
