In the case of malignant tumors, angiogenesis that occurs within the tumor mass promotes continued tumor growth. As a tumor enlarges, its central tissues gradually die off (necrosis). However, its outer portion continues to grow, often to fatal proportions, with blood supplied through angiogenesis.
