1 Community Mental Health Centers ODMHSAS is responsible for a statewide network of community mental health centers (CMHC) which provide a variety of services including case management for adults and children, crisis intervention, psychiatric rehabilitation, medication services, and other outpatient mental health services. Additionally, community based programs include non-traditional services such as housing, employment services, peer advocacy, drop in centers, and consumer run services. Ten private non-profit and 5 state-operated CMHCs operate throughout the state. Community Based Structured Crisis Centers The department supports Community Based Structured Crisis Centers (CBSCCs) for adults located throughout the state, including: Ardmore, Clinton, Muskogee, Norman, Oklahoma City, Sapulpa and Tulsa. Two facilities in Oklahoma City (OCCIC and OCRU) and one in Tulsa (TCBH) providing emergency care are state-operated. Others are supported through department funding. Facilities in Ardmore, Oklahoma City, Sapulpa and Tulsa also operate behavioral health urgent care centers that provide 23-hour respite and observation to help prevent psychiatric emergency and persons from inpatient or CBSCC placement. These centers also address substance abuse emergencies. Prevention Programs The department has established several projects for early intervention and prevention of alcohol and drug abuse related problems. These include educational opportunities for behavioral health/ medical professionals, data sharing and analysis, operation of the statewide Prevention Resource Center, oversight and management of a statewide prevention network including contracted Regional Prevention Coordinators (organizations located in 17 communities serving all counties), partnership with community coalitions, targeted prescription drug abuse prevention initiatives, school-based training and prevention efforts, underage drinking community mobilization and enforcement programs, and statewide SYNAR monitoring. Prevention initiatives target both mental health and substance abuse issues. ODMHSAS prevention services oversee noteworthy undertakings such as the statewide prescription drug abuse initiative including collaborative work with sister agencies regarding Oklahoma’s Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), the suicide prevention initiative and numerous other successful efforts. Children’s Services The department contracts for a variety of mental health services for children, including family based, in-home services, outpatient services and wrap around services. Contracted providers are located in communities throughout the state. The Children’s Recovery Center (CRC) in Norman is a state-operated facility dedicated to providing treatment services for children and youth. The facility provides crisis services and inpatient care for both mental health and substance abuse. The department places an increased emphasis on adolescent substance abuse treatment (as well as treatment of mothers with dependent children). More About ODMHSAS
