CLASS 10 TH TIME : 35 MINUTES TOPIC : POLYNOMIALS SUBTOPIC: GRAPHYCAL MEANING OF ZERO OF POLYNOMIALS LESSON PLAN

Time Management 1. P K Testing 3 minutes. 2. Motivation 2 minutes. 3.Presentation 12 minutes. 4.Student Activity10 minutes. 5. Evaluation & Conclusion 8minutes.

PK TESTING We shall give a few polynomials to the students to recognize their types and degrees. Then we will ask them about the solutions of polynomials as follows 3, -x+5, 0 etc. Now we shall ask them about the solutions of polynomials and give them few problems such as For what value of x,x+2=0? Expected answer x=-2.

MOTIVATION Let x be the number of pencils each student will get and we have 17 students in a class. How many pencils each student will get if they are related as such 17x+2=53?

PRESENTATION In this case we will mainly focus upon the zeros of polynomials with the help of graphs.

In algebraic language the graph of a polynomial is the set of all points (x,y) in a plane such as y=p(x).In geometric language the graph of a polynomial is a smooth free hand curve passing through the points (x,y) for the polynomial y=p(x).Now geometrical meaning of zeros of a polynomial is the graph of an nth degree polynomial which crosses the x axis at most n points. In simple way the x coordinate of these points is called zeros of the polynomial. Now we will explain it graphically as follows

In graph first the curve is intersecting the x –axis at two points. Therefore there are two zeros of the given polynomials. In second case the graph is intersecting the x –axis at three points. Therefore there are three zeros of the polynomial. In third case the graph is intersecting at three points i.e three zeros of the polynomial.Similiarly in the last case the graph is intersecting the x- axis at four points i.e. four zeros of the given polynomial.

EVALUATION In case of evaluation the total class is divided into four groups Group 1: For group 1 certain polynomials will be given and they should identify the types and degree of the given polynomial. Group 2 :For group 2 task of random drawing of curves will be given.

Group3: this group will count the number of points at which the random curve drawn by group 2 is intersecting the x-axis. Group 4:Group 4 will conclude group 1,2and 3 and will give the number of zeros of the drawn curves by the previous groups.
