6 NC Constitution - p. 42 Constitutions are social contracts – we give up some freedoms in exchange for protection of our natural rights All laws in a country/state are based on their constitution Unconstitutional = law thrown out

7 NC Constitution – optional to write During the Revolutionary War, the same people who wrote the DOI told all the states they had to create their own constitutions. Laws that affect the whole country are based on the U.S. Constitution True or False (must answer) Laws that affect only NC are based only on the NC Constitution.

8 Create Your Own Class Constitution! – p. 42 Within your “A Group” you will examine the NC Constitution and use it as a framework for creating a classroom constitution 1. In your groups, review the different Articles of the North Carolina Constitution and their purposes. 2. After gaining an understanding of each Article, use the same format to brainstorm a constitution for our classroom. Use the worksheet to assist you. 3. Once you have finalized the wording in your Articles, your group will write out your Constitution on chart paper. You may also decorate your Constitution with appropriate graphics that represent the various Constitutional themes and tenants addressed in your document.
