Spring of Attempt to capture Quebec British Major-General, James Wolfe, led fleet of 200 ships, 9000 soldiers and sailors up St. Lawrence River French Commander, Marquis de Montcalm, stationed in stone fortress in Quebec with troops 11 weeks of British firing at fortress from ships and destroying villages in the countryside “Montcalm has wisely shut himself up so that I can’t get at him.” – Wolfe

Fall of Battle of the Plains of Abraham Wolfe led British troops up steep cliffs British soldier responded to the 30 questioning French guards in perfect French, “Provisions from Montreal.” 4400 British troops were on heights and caught Montcalm by surprise – he decided to come out with French troops Wolfe and British troops waited in “thin red line” – shoulder to shoulder British fired first and then charged Many French soldiers fell, rest retreated

1300 soldiers died General Wolfe died General Montcalm died Quebec handed over to British “I am glad I shall not live to see the surrender of Quebec.” – Montcalm

13 British took Montreal French prepared for the “last stand” in Montreal but surrendered when they realized they just could not win  French rule in North America ended but this is the legacy of New France...
