1 LVC-ITE “Expand Your Battle-space” Combined Arms Battalion (CATS) STAFFEX: Conduct an Attack / Movement to Contact 71-TS-1001 UNCLASSIFED https://atn.army.mil/dsp_template.aspx?dpID=21 1

3 Ft Bliss Assigned Units

4 4 Exercise Objectives Execute a Battalion STAFFEX To train the staff on the unit TSOP, doctrine, and TTPs related to conducting an attack/movement to contact. Training should sustain proficiency in the TTPs that the staff must accomplish, including monitoring and directing ongoing operations. Training should include the interaction between staff sections to monitor and determine information needs, information sources, and information requirements to/from higher, lower, and adjacent headquarters. Exercise the Battalion staff in the use of Knowledge Management (KM) and Army Battle Command Systems (FBCB2/Blue Force Tracker, MCS, AFATDS, CPOF, DCGS-A) to ensure proficiency. The TSOP should be verified during this training. Replicate a collective training environment that focuses on leader training, reduces personnel, equipment, and time requirements, and permits multiple iterations of critical tasks at the Platoon, Company and Battalion level. Take full advantage of available Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) resources. UNCLASSIFED https://atn.army.mil/dsp_template.aspx?dpID=21

5 FORT BLISS LVC Expanded Battlefield (Slide 1) BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend There are currently nine Brigade equivalent units stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. All competing for training resources.

6 55km 10km LVC Expanded Battlefield (Slide 2) Because of land constraints, competing unit training, and environmental impacts or constraints, a unit is given a maneuver area capable of supporting a limited live maneuver mechanized training event. In this case the unit was given a piece of land approximately 10km x 55km. BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend

7 AA I I OBJ KIMBER The maneuver area is large enough for two mechanized companies to conduct limited maneuver training and encompasses the CACTF (Combined Arms Collective Training Facility) as an objective with a live OPFOR defending. This training area is not large enough to support an entire Battalion in the field, however… BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend LVC Expanded Battlefield (Slide 3)

8 OBJ COLT I I AA I I OBJ KIMBER LVC Expanded Battlefield (Slide 4) By adding virtual TADSS (CCTT), the commander can bring in two additional mechanized companies that can maneuver on separate objectives. BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend

The BN HQs also allows the use of additional enablers such as attack aviation and UAVs. Live attack aviation to support the live units to the west and AVCATT virtual attack aviation to support the virtual units to the east. BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend

Additional sister Battalion staffs could be added to the constructive fight as well. BC L CV Enabler Cross Blend
