Accessibility Testing Naisargi Shah

What is Accessibility Testing?  It is a subset of usability testing.  Software is tested to decide the accessibility of the software for those with disabilities.

Who to consider ?  Software developer/tester should keep in mind the people with:  Blindness or low vision  Deafness or hearing loss  Limited movement  Photosensitivity  Speech disabilities  Reading disorders  Neurological disabilities

Standards and Guidelines  WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)  WCAG 2.0  Disability Discrimination Act (mostly in UK, Australia)  Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

WCAG

WCAG 2.0  Collection of guidelines, which states the accessibility standards for web software.  Has 4 principles which consists of 12 guidelines.  Within the guidelines, there are success criteria with 3 different levels: A, AA, AAA.

Principle 1: PerceivablePrinciple 2: Operable  Guideline 1: Text Alternative  Guideline 2: Time-based media  Guideline 3: Adaptable  Guideline 4: Distinguishable  Guideline 5: Keyboard Accessible  Guideline 6: Enough Time  Guideline 7: Seizures  Guideline 8: Navigable

Principle 3: UnderstandablePrinciple 4: Robust  Guideline 9: Readable  Guideline 10: Predictable  Guideline 11: Input Assistance  Guideline 12: Compatible

Tools for Testing  Accessibility Color Wheel: helps make the choice of color pair to use for foreground and background in the software. http://gmazzocato.altervista.org/colorwheel/wheel.php  Achecker: checks HTML pages using WCAG to check for its accessibility.

Conclusion  Consider people with disabilities while testing.  Entry criteria: look at different types of disabilities.  Exit criteria: software should be stated as accessible.  Every user should get equivalent access.

What is accessibility testing part of? a)Acceptance testing b)Usability testing c)Compatibility testing d)All of the above

What is the full form of WCAG? a)World Compatible Accessible Guide b)Web Compatible Accessibility Guidelines c)World Content Accessibility Guidelines d)Web content Accessibility Guidelines

What are the 4 principles of WCAG? a)Perceivable, Reliable, Operable, and Independent b)Understandable, Reliable, Usable and Operable c)Clear, Reliable, Dependent and Operable d)Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust
