Parul Polytechnic Institute Subject Code : 3330705 Name Of Subject : Microprocessor and assembly language programming Name of Unit : Introduction to Microprossor Topic : microcomputer system Name of Faculty : H.M.Avaiya & N.D.Dhameliya Name of Students: (i) JANI VISHAL D(130) (ii) PATEL RONAK D(131)

BLOCK DIAGRAM:

The main functional units of microcomputer system are: 1.Microprocessor 2.Memory 3.I /O devices 4.System bus

Microprocessor: It is the heart of the system and performs all the arithmetic and logic operations. It communicates with other devices in a system like memory or I/O using system bus. The system bus is made of address, data and control buses and connected to address, data and control signals of microprocessor. The microprocessor contains three section: registers, ALU, and control and timing.

Memory: The memory is an essential component of microcomputer system. The RAM and ROM forms primary memory of the system and directly accessed by the microprocessor using system bus. The ROM stores permanent program and data. The RAM provides the space for user programs and data.

I/O devices: The I/O devices allow the interaction of outside world with the microprocessor. There are two types of I/O devices: 1. Input devices 2.Output devices

Input devices: Input devices are used in entering program or data into the system. Key board is an example of input device. It can be used to enter a program or data while program is executing.

Output devices: The output devices are used to send data to outside the world or display the result. The small LED display in trainer kit and monitor in IBM PC are examples of o/p devices. The microcomputer system may have also devices work as both input and output device.

System bus: It is a group of wires known as bus and provides communication path between microprocessor and peripheral devices. System bus of a microprocessor system consist of address bus, data bus, and control bus. Connecting all the devices on a single path or bus is called common bus approach.
