Has to have a decimal and a power of ten To be CORRECT, it has to be bigger than 1, and smaller than 10. Ex. 234,000,000 => 2.34x108 Ex => 4.85x10-3

To multiply: the exponents can simply be added together Ex. Multiply 6.7 x 105 times 3.4 x 102 6.7 * 3.4 = 22.78 5 + 2 = 7 Answer: x 107 Answer: x 108

To divide: the exponents can simply be subtracted Ex. divide 6.7 x 105 by 3.4 x 102 6.7 / 3.4 = 1.97 5 - 2 = 3 Answer: 1.97 x 103

6 Scientific Notation Review
Exponentials: multiply the exponents Ex. (2.4 x 104)3 (2.4)3 x 10(4x3) x 1012 Answer: 1.4 x 1013

Square Root: write the number with an even power of 10, then divide by 2 Ex. √ x 105 x 105 = x104 √ = 8.189 4 / 2 = 2 Answer: x 102
