Matt 13:24-26 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tare also appeared.

Matt 13:28-30 He said to them, an enemy has done this. "The servants said him, "Do you want us then to go and gather them up? Let both grow together until the harvest, and at that time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat unto my barn."

Matt 13:51 Jesus said to them. "Have you understood all these things?"

Commentary Good Morning Friends! I hope all of us have had a wonderful vacation and that others will be returning soon. In verse 51 Jesus says, Have you understood all these things? In actuality He's saying, "you need to get this". My friends, there are times in our lives before we can move forward and really come to grip with some things, "we need to get it“. We need to realize the things that we are responsible and accountable for serving in the Kingdom and leave the

rest to God. When I was in grade school, one of my teachers would say to me when explaining a concept, "Janice you need to get this". In other words, pay close attention to this as you will need to refer and reflect on this again. In addition, this very concept will aid you further in life's situations. I believe as Jesus teaches, He continues to lay the foundation so that we learn to work in the Kingdom, not because of, but in spite of.

By this, I mean our work in the kingdom will bring harvest in our lives in spite of the distracters and defectors. I believe there are times in our lives that the element of the tare is orchestrated by God and used as a part of our growth in the kingdom. You see, Jesus uses the wheat and the tare as an analogy to describe the works of the righteous and the work of the wicked. It also points out that sometimes God's work in done while both are present and God chooses not to separate them for the purpose

is to bring out strength and endurance in us. Although this text is often viewed in terms of ecology/eternal life, I believe it reveals significant truths relating to our everyday living for God. My friends, have you ever wondered why God doesn't do something, anything about the tare around you! Well, could it be that the tare is very much a part of your growth, Christian development, and upward movement? God purposely leaves the tare until an appointed time so that you can "get it”.

Jesus leaves them with this parable asking the question: "Have you understood all these things? Patsy Clairmont say, "Jesus conveyed truth through both tough and tender talk. The tough words pierced the conscience and exposed the content of the heart. The tender words penetrated pain and produced peace. Dr. Janice Gilbert, Senior Pastor McKinney UMC

Life Application Statement: What's planted in you, as well as what's planted around you, may be indicative of growth and harvest.

Life Application Principles 1. Jesus shows us things about harvest. (which relates to real life situations) 2. Jesus shows us that harvest time always weathers adversity and stands in spite of circumstances. 3. Harvest is outcome or reflection of focus, endurance and commitment. Copyright 2011

Life Application Conclusion We must get it! There is no harvest that can not withstand seasons and climate. There is no harvest without withstanding the stinky smells and obscure environments. Lastly, there is no harvest if we don't understand that vines and thistles and thorns will come into our life.
