3 Assets and facilities An asset is an item of equipment which has a material identity. –Hence an asset retains its identity when it is removed a system and is maintained or used elsewhere A facility is a part of a system which has a functional identity. –A facility cannot be removed from the system of which it is a part and used elsewhere. An asset is installed to provide, or act as, a facility.
