1 RESEARCH IN ROME AND POMPEII Work closely with a faculty member in Classical Studies on a research project at William and Mary Take a three-week tour of Rome and the area of the Bay of Naples, including Pompeii, to investigate and report on your project on site Participate in a student research symposium back at William and Mary Earn up to nine credits Estimated cost of program: $5000 (excluding airfare and some meals) For more information, please contact Prof. Spaeth (bsspae@wm.edu)

2 RESEARCH IN ROME AND POMPEII Fall 2009 OR Spring 2010 Enroll for Independent Study credit (CLCV 491, GREK 491 or LATN 491; 1-3 credits) Work on a research project with a professor Can attach independent study component to an existing course or do a separate project Early Spring 2010 Feb. 1: Application for study abroad due to Reves Center ($75 fee) Mar. 1: Deposit for program due to Reves Center ($500) Apr. 1: Balance of program costs due to Reves Center by Apr. 1 Summer 2010 (May 27-June 16 : tentative) Study tour to Rome and the Bay of Naples (including Pompeii) (5 credits) Study your project on site and deliver a presentation on it to the group. Fall 2010 Optional research symposium (1 credit) Develop a professional-quality paper from your project Present your paper at symposium Work toward submitting your paper to a national professional conference
