Organisation of engineering educational programme Guaranteed Quality of degrees at any “level”

Introduction Master in “Computer Engineering”: Curricula development I year  Statistic and Stochastic Processes6  Digital Design6  Operating Systems II6  Database System Technology 6  Networking II6  Electronic for Computer Engin.6  Formal Languages and Compilers 6  Foreign Language II6  Security of Information Systems 6  Architecture of Control automatic Systems6   Advanced Computer Architecture6  Object Oriented II 6  Project Management4  Distributed Systems II 6  Software Engineering II 6  Wireles Networks 6  Artificial Inteligence 6  Diploma 20 II year

Subjects  No subjects with choice (elective) for these two years (Master Study)  Almost all subjects to be covered included in the program. ..maybe few subjects remained untreated..  Soon establishment of the final program of subjects.

Cooperation  Included in the program: Software engineering II  Prof. Klaus Bothe, Univeristy of Humbold, Germany  Zoran Putnik, University of NoviSad, Serbia. Distributed Systems II  Prof. Bernd Freisleben, University of Marburg, Germany. Wireless Networks  Phd. Dritan Kaleshi, University of Bristol, England. Network Security  Prof. Arian Durresi, Louisiana State University, USA. Cooperation between Balkan Countries????????

Cooperation A good experience for our professors A good experience for our students especially in the sense of being faced perhaps with other methods of teaching testing their accumulated knowledge during these 2 years.

Impressions of invited professors.. All invited professors  …The level of students is quite comparable to the students in our universities.  Some remarks from Prof. Klaus Bothe, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany ....Highly motivated, rather interested. ....Engaged in lessons by giving feedback to questions rather  quickly (they like interactivity)

Impressions of invited professors.. ....Do not make notices during the lectures (remarks from lecturers) like German students ....Disciplined: attendance, in-time present, no eating and drinking, no leaving the room and return with a cafe. ....Open-minded ....We found their assignments excellent – in particular compared with our students.

Master students & Research  The students are involved in research by the professors providing them some directions where they should be focused, but also leaving them free to develop their own ideas through individual work.

Master students & Research  Individual work of research in every subject, concluded with papers and presentations.  Participation in national and international seminars, workshops and conferences.  Results : More independency. More responsibility. More focused on particular fields. “Configured” for master micro-thesis.

Summer school  Summer 2006 held in Vlora.  Helped by UNDP  A collaboration of UPT Tirana, Computer Engineering Section The department of Informatics at the Faculty of Natural Science  Topics: Eclipse IDE. Java Grid systems

SIF – scientific seminar of informatics  Organization of a seminar exposing presentations of the research of students presentations of the research of professors.  Participation of students from the University of Prishtina, Kosovo.  Planing to organize it every year.

BCI2007  Students of the second year in Master Studies in collaboration with their professors have applied with papers in the 3rd Balkan Conference of Informatics (BCI2007).  Results were quite satisfactory: 13 papers were accepted to be part of the proceedings 8 of them were done in collaboration with the students of the second year, some of the students were presented also with individual works.

Master students & Market  Students & Market  Level of Students & Market  Students between university and the job

Possibility for accreditation of computer engineering diploma  ??????  Some of our students after 3 year graduation (bachelor diploma) they applied for +2 in Italy (Politechnico di Torino and Milano) and in Germany (Achen University) and they are approved to continue +2 study there.  From some point of view this is one of the ways that leads us to further accreditations

Student’s comments..

Positive reaction  More invited professors from other universities than in the “Bachelor” cycle.  Different way of teaching and studying, more independent consequently more creative and responsible.  Summer school  Classes were hold in better auditoriums.

To be improved  Labs equipped with “special” devices: routers, servers, special simulation software etc.  Since it was the first year the staff lacked the long experience it had in the “Bachelor” cycle.  Problems every start of year (with MES).

Thank You!
