4 Cyclotron  A dipole magnet will produce circular motion for a particle.  Alternating fields between two halves of the magnet provide acceleration.  This forms a cyclotron. Medical physics accelerator

5 Synchrotron  Magnets with alternating fields can accelerate a particle.  The largest accelerators are proton synchrotrons.

6 Multistage Acceleration next  To reach the highest energies a series of accelerators are used.  Linear accelerators to modest energies.  Synchrotrons to higher energies.
