www. pdst. ie DEFINE: Name the study What will it be about? What will it examine ? JUSTIFY: Why is the topic historically significant? Why does it merit study? What is your personal interest in the topic? APPROX LENGTH: One third of the page Define and Justify

Sliding scale Excellent : 21-25 Very good: 17-21 Good: 13-16 Fair: 9-12 Weak: 0-8 Most students achieve an excellent mark Evaluation of Sources

www. pdst. ie Devote equal space to each source Marks will only be awarded for THREE sources Discuss strengths, weaknesses and relevance Be aware of bias Mention the benefits of bibliographies to research Difficult language, lack of photos/maps, lack of glossary are all valid weaknesses Use all the available space BUT do not exceed the allocated page – material will be disregarded. Don’t choose a topic too closely related to the course; e.g. The founding of the GAA, Nazi Propaganda, etc. Narrow focus is best Encourage originality No start date – Ancient History Beware celebrities! 1500 words Extended Essay
