1 Fall, 2014

2 Vision Statement: Building a future in the global community for our students through STEM infused learning whenever, wherever! Procedures and Information for Students and Parents USD 475 received a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Grant for the next 3 school years to implement STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning in our schools. The Braiding STEM Early initiative goal is to increase student achievement in mathematics and science K-5. The laptops will help support that goal by enhancing project based STEM activities such as conducting scientific experiments, introducing computer programing modules through LEGO, mathematics software for digital instruction, and other initiatives. The laptop will allow student access to educational applications, web-based tools and many other useful sites. USD 475 purchased the GO Math resources for use in Grades 2—5 and will be a big part of the use of these laptops. The laptop is an educational tool not intended for gaming, social networking or high-end computing, and all users will be expected to follow the district’s acceptable use policy as well as all other state and federal laws, board policies and school rules. This document provides students and families with information about the general use of technology, ownership of the laptops, rights and responsibilities for possession of the device, care of the laptop, its educational use and good digital citizenship. Additionally the last pages are a Laptop Permission Form and a Laptop Agreement Between Student and School. These must be signed before the laptops can go home after winter break with students. Students will be using them in class prior to winter break.
