2 Timothy 4:1-4 1 I solemnly charge you... 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;... they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Which are... n Absolute/complete /unqualified n Inalterable/final /unchangeable n Universal/available /accessible n Effectual/useful /understandable Three Related Concepts ~The Word –vr. 2, “preach” ~Sound Doctrine –vr. 3, “will not endure” ~The Truth –vr. 4, “turn away...from”

n Toward themselves: –Qualification - must be sound in the faith, not newbies, but grounded & wise in Word –Obligation (for which they give account) »Exhortation in sound teaching »Refutation of unsound teachers n Toward the church –To insure soundness in teaching –To insure faithfulness in attitudes/actions –To insure protection of the Shepherd’s sheep They are not mini-Gods, but Godly men!

Doctrine and Fellowship “ 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.” ~ 2 John 10-11 –Note the basis in vr. 9, “does not have God…(or) has both the Father and...Son”

n Fellowship is based upon… –Relation with Father/Son - 1 John 1:1-7 –Abiding in the teaching of Christ »That which arises out of His Lordship »That which was taught and revealed by Him »That which maintains relationship with Him and those who are in fellowship with Him (cf. 1 John 2:19 with 1 Corinthians 1:10) n Fellowship is limited by… –Teaching - Romans 16:17ff –Practice (action / words) - Ephesians 5:11 –Endorsement - 2 John 9-11

Truth God, the Ultimate Source The Word Revealed by Divine Processes Doctrine Conveying Divine Instruction Recapitulation of the Principle n What is by nature truth, is revealed in and by the Word... n What the Word reveals is conveyed to the learner by sound doctrine (teaching)
