Love and Sin A comparison of Biblical times and our Present Day
2
Why Blog? No referencing required – all urls should be hyperlinked and images/videos should be embedded. Posts will be in reverse chronological order and be dated – this is evidence of learning across a long period of time (unlike a test which judges you on your performance on one day). Improves your writing and digital literacy skills. You must use correct grammar and spelling. This will be easier as you have access to a range of digital materials, eg. www.dictionary.comwww.dictionary.com It’s fun and different – you will be more engaged with the material on the web as you can refer to it and add it to your blog. You can play with the format and structure of your blog. More opportunity for feedback – your teacher will have the link to your blog and can comment on your posts as you work on them. We are using www.edublogs.com Go to this site.www.edublogs.com NOW, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25hIurn0waQ as this is a guide to setting up your blog.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25hIurn0waQ

What is sin? Sin is an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbour caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods. It wounds the nature of man and injures human solidarity. It has been defined as "an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law.“ Source: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/ p3s1c1a8.htm http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/ p3s1c1a8.htm

From Youcat 67. At the core of sin is a rejection of God and a refusal to accept his love. This is manifested in a disregard for his commandments.

Types of Sin There are a great many kinds of sins. Scripture provides several lists of them. The Letter to the Galatians contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit: "Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

Do Christians think Homosexuality is a sin? Pope’s perspective: Francis said in the interview that the catechism, or the Roman Catholic Church's official doctrine book, condemns homosexual acts, but he called on the Church to love gays and lesbians, who "must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity." Said he could not judge Catholic priests who identify themselves as homosexual. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?" said Francis to reporters on board a plane returning from Brazil. "The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this very well. It says they should not be marginalized because of this (orientation) but that they must be integrated into society.“ Said he could not judge Catholic priests Source: http://bit.ly/1i6N9nThttp://bit.ly/1i6N9nT

From Youcat 65. The Church believes that, in the order of creation, man and woman are designed to need each other’s complementary traits and to enter into a mutual relationship so as to give life to children. That is why homosexual practices cannot be approved by the Church.

From Sin to Love What is Love? Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end... And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. (NRSV, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13)

What does the Bible say about Love? The primary meaning of the word "love" in Scripture is a "purposeful commitment to sacrificial action for another." In the Bible it is a fact that loving God is equated with obeying His Word. The two are inseparable. true love is shown in God's love for the sinner. Romans 5:8 says "...commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." The lost sinner living in rebellion and sin is still loved by the Lord. He loved us enough to die for us and pay our sin debt while we were sinning against Him. This shows that true biblical love is a matter of will....not of emotion. God choose to love us and His love was not based on our meriting it in any way.
