LIBER GdC Working Group for Education “Who is who” Post-Amsterdam updates have been limited, restricted to our Secretary sending out an extended e-mail to all National Correspondents asking for an update to the ‘Who is Who’ for each country - response rates have been disappointing. 9. LIBER GdC Working Group for Education Graphic indexes Developments have moved on considerably since Amsterdam. The Charles Close Society website now has a fully functioning graphic index function for the whole of Great Britain, which allows you to roam around and automatically says which sheets of which series cover the point you are hovering over. This was a collaboration between a computing expert linked to a private geodesy site and the National Library of Scotland. Petr Pridal’s Map Tiler, targeted at existing GIS users, and therefore requiring a certain degree of expertise, runs totally on open source software, and is easy to use. For it to work, the end user must supply fully georeferenced data. Petr’s OldMapsOnline service is a four-year project, which involves suggesting a workflow for libraries, and also uses the Zoomify feature. It is based on JPEG2000 and again uses open source software. There is much inbuilt support for map indexing, warping images to fit into Google Maps.
