Planet Facts 1 Neptune is the eighth and sometimes last planet from the sun. It is last sometimes because its orbit crosses with Pluto’s. Neptune’s gravitational pull is 1.2 times stronger than Earth’s. It is 2,794,000,000 miles from the sun. Neptune has 8 moons: Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Triton, and Nereid.

Planet Facts 2 The diameter of Neptune is 49,532 kilometers across. Neptune, unlike Earth is gas planet. That means it is has more gas than rocky area. The temperature on Neptune can get as low as -360°f (-218°c). Neptune has hydrogen, methane, helium, and ammonia. The methane and ammonia are in the “ices” on Neptune.

Planet Facts 3 Neptune’s rotation period (day) is 17 hours 50 minutes long. There are four rings that go around Neptune. The Great Dark Spot like Jupiter’s Red is on Neptune. Neptune’s revolution period (year) is 165 of our years.

Planet Facts 4 Neptune was named after the Roman god of the sea. Neptune is the fourth largest planet in the solar system. Voyager 2 was the first space probe to visit Neptune.
6
Planet Facts 5 John Adams and Urbain Leverrier first located Neptune. Johann Galle first sighted Neptune. He first saw Neptune on September 23, 1846.
