2 Mission CAUL is the peak leadership organisation for university libraries in Australia. Our mission is to enhance the value and capacity of Australian university libraries and to influence scholarship, learning, and information policies and practices relevant to Australian higher education

3 Research and access to information We are committed to strengthening the role of university libraries as partners in the research process and in promoting libraries’ unique contribution to scholarship and scholarly communication

4 Open Scholarship Open access repositories to store, promote and preserve the digital assets and outputs of universities Management & curation of research resources such as datasets and digital collections Publication, especially electronic and often open publication, of material based on research Advice on e-Research data management, including policy and planning, metadata, standards and persistent identifiers

5 CAUL Research Advisory Committee Focus on the strategic development of repository services; and provide an opportunity for repository managers to discuss common repository issues with a secondary aim of collaborating on solutions

8 Issues Number of works in repositories are growing – mandated deposit for all research publications is increasing; 61% involved in HERDC collection; 57% capable tagging mandated deposits 68% of deposits collected by repository staff independent of authors or researchers but no increase in repository staffing Name ambiguity impedes citations tracking; more difficult to share records, report and discover

9 Researcher ID Scheme In 2013, 70% do not use a researcher identifier scheme 11 or all used internal author ID 30% do use a researcher identifier scheme 3 also used Thomson Researcher ID 1 also used Scopus ID

10 Enable Discovery Global researcher identifier to assist with automated integrations with different systems to simplify workflows and lower costs To capture every stage of research work, back to the thesis To share records and information globally
