OECD Expert Group on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange Part 1: Exchange of experience and practices for data sharing and exchange 1.1 Tools presently used Gesmes/TS deliveries from output databases at Statistics Sweden Lars Nordbäck

Preparation phase - Retrieval from the database

To save a Gesmes/TS query

Gesmes/TS related parameters

The Selection program is monitored using a bat- and a txt-file The name of the input gesmesfile is on line one, and the resulting file is in line two. The arrays to remove are marked with a minus sign. The minus option is used when a few arrays shall be removed, if a few shall remain you can use a plus sign and enter those arrays to remain Gesselect is started by clicking the gesselect.bat file 1

The Concatenation program is monitored using a bat- and a txt-file The name of the gesmesfiles to concatenate are entered in a text- file. The first name however shall be on the resulting file Name of resulting file Gesconc is started by clicking the gesconc.bat file 2 3 2 1

Making a txt-file – a list of pxs-files – the saved querries

6 5 4 3 2 1 Execution phase - PX-Batch using query

Gesmes/TS deliveries from the output database SSD PC-Axis SQL – save queries PX-Batch – run queries that produces gesmesfiles GesSelect – selecting arrays from a rectangular retrieval Gesconc – concatenating several Gesmes-files into one file Statel/Stadium – keeps track on delivieries

- Better solutions for special signs - Automatic delivery, projects in Denmark and Norway - Gesmes/TS-XML? Possible development

Sending Gesmes/TS files using Stadium Web Client

Making a Gesmes/TS file from an Excel file using Add in (i)

Making a Gesmes/TS file from an Excel file using Add in (ii)

Making a Gesmes/TS file from an Excel file using Add in (iii)

Using one existing standard - Gesmes/TS is used by ECB and Eurostat - We have tools to produce Gesmes/TS - We can produce from our existing public databases - We are going to make automatic data transfer, the goal is to achieve EDIFACT as it is used in the automotive industry - The same tools are used by several countries

Countries using the PC-Axis family software Europe: Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and UN/ECE in Geneva Asia: Taiwan, The Philippines Afrika: Algeria, Kuwait, East Africa Community, Namibia, Uganda, South Africa South America: Bolivia and Brazil Discussions with Romania, Slovakia and Tanzania

PC-Axis Code converting file Excel-Gesmes conversion Gesmesfiles Concatenation,DSt Gesmesfile – ready to send Metadata SSD-table Eurostat-table The Excel conversion add in produced by the consultant Anders Törnqvists will be available for other institutions from the consultant direct. PC-Axis function for creating Gesmesfiles has been further developed to be able to use open array parameters IF the statistics is in the Public Output Data Base, SSD, the Gesmes files are created fetching metadata and data from alt 1) a table entered for the Public SSD on the Statistics Sweden website alt 2) a special composed table especially established for the reporting to other organisations. If necessary a converting file is used to get the demanded codes. If the statistics is missing in the SSD Gesmes files can be created using Excel. Selections, DSt
