3 Lesson 38 – The “Conference” 15:1-29 The letter was to be carried to the Gentiles by “leading men” v. 22 The letter’s contents vv. 23-29 A greeting and denial of association with those Jews who had been troubling them Unity had been reached…truth was established

4 Lesson 38 – The “Conference” 15:1-29 The letter’s contents vv. 23-29 A strong commendation of those carrying the letter…they had “risked their lives for the name of Jesus Christ” It closed with the suggestion put forward by James cp. v. 20

5 Lesson 38 – Back In Antioch 15:30-35 The Antioch church is gathered together… when the letter is read, they “rejoiced at its encouragement” vv. 30-31 Judas & Silas also spoke encouraging and strengthening words…then went back to Jerusalem vv. 32-33

6 Lesson 38 – Back In Antioch 15:30-35 Paul & Barnabas remained at Antioch, teaching and preaching v. 35

7 Lesson 38 – 2nd Journey Plans 15:36-40 Paul suggests a return to the churches that were started on the 1st journey 15:36 Barnabas agrees…wants John Mark to accompany them 15:37 Paul disagrees because John Mark had earlier failed them 15:38 cp. 13:13

8 Lesson 38 – 2nd Journey Plans 15:36-40 The disagreement is so “sharp” that Paul & Barnabas split 15:39-41 Barnabas takes John Mark, goes to Cyprus Paul takes Silas, travels through Syria and Cilicia

10 Lesson 38 – In Galatia & Asia 16:1-8 Leaving Cilicia, Paul goes to Derbe v. 1a He meets a disciple named Timothy vv. 1b-2 He was “well-spoken of” by the brethren in Lystra & Iconium His mother was a Jew & and believed His father was Greek…didn’t believe 2 Tim 1:5

11 Lesson 38 – In Galatia & Asia 16:1-8 Paul has Timothy circumcised because of the Jews who will hear them preach v. 3 Compare to Titus 15:5-7a Gal 2:3-5 They deliver the Jerusalem decree…the churches were strengthened & increased in number daily vv. 4-5

13 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 In Troas, Paul receives a vision from a man in Macedonia requesting help v. 9 He concludes that God has called them to preach in Macedonia v. 10 It is also in Troas that Luke joins Paul “They” & “Them” become “We” & “Us”

17 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 The Lord “opened Lydia’s heart”…she and her household were baptized vv. 14-15a She constrained Paul’s group to stay in her house v. 15b

18 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 A slave-girl possessing a spirit follows Paul, “announces” his work vv. 16-17 She brought her masters “much profit” Annoyed, Paul casts out the spirit v. 18 Her masters falsely accuse Paul…they have him and Silas arrested vv. 19-21

19 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 The slave-girl’s masters succeed in winning over the crowds…Paul & Silas are beaten & imprisoned vv. 22-24 At midnight, Paul & Silas worship v. 25a The prisoners listen to them sing v. 25b

21 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 Paul convinces the jailer no prisoners had escaped v. 28 The trembling jailer asks “What must I do to be saved?” vv. 29-30 Somehow, somewhere previously…the jailer had been influenced cp. Mt 5:10-16

22 Lesson 38 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 Paul’s initial response Ù “Believe” v. 31 Paul’s more lengthy reply Ù Additional teaching v. 32 The jailer washed their wounds “…that very hour” and took them to his own house to feed them vv. 33a, 34 REPENTANCE
