2 Republic of Macedonia Ministry of Information Society and Administration  Establishment of MARnet  MARnet (Macedonian Academic and Research Network) was established in year 1994 as an organizational unit of the Ss Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje by auspices of the Ministry of research of R. Macedonia.  MARnet transformation  With the publishing of the new law on 20.09.2010 in the Offical gazette of R.M. No.124 and it’s enforcement on 01.01.2011, the Macedonian Academic and Research Network is transformed into a public institution which carries out activities of public interest responsible for development, organization and management of the unique educational and research telecommunication network in Macedonia. 2

3 Republic of Macedonia Ministry of Information Society and Administration  Management of MARnet  The management of MARnet is carried out by the Steering Board. Board members are appointed and dismissed by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.  Steering board members  Consisted of seven members for a mandate of four years and can be re- elected. One member is appointed by proposal of the Minister of Education, one member by proposal of the Minister of Information Society and Administration and 5 members one from each state university  President  The Steering Board has a president who is elected by the members of the Board. 3

10 Republic of Macedonia Ministry of Information Society and Administration  MARnet – Internet  The established Macedonian academic and research network MARnet, plays key role in the Internet connectivity for the educational, scientific and research institutions  Internet as a knowledge source  One of the sources where knowledge about Internet security can be gathered  Academic circles dealing with the area of Internet security thanks to the information available through the Internet network MARnet, are continuously gaining higher knowledge about security measures and are using the acquired knowledge in practice.  Availability  Widely available in the University Campuses for every student, researcher, professor etc. 10

MARnet is providing free access  Knowledge sharing  As a result of the Metro area connectivity and International connection of MARnet, a backbone for sharing information is available among all global users belonging to the Geant network  Communication and Collaboration  All the gain knowledge about the Internet security is shared among the researches who’s main field of interest is the Internet security 11
