What is The blasphemey The blasphemey Against Against The The Holy Ghost? Holy Ghost?

This subject is dealt with by Matthew, Mark and Luke Matthew 12:31-32 Matthew 12:31-32 Mark 3:22-30 Mark 3:22-30 Luke 11:14-15 Luke 11:14-15

“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit Matt. 12:31-32

Mark 3:22-30 22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

8 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Luke 11:14-15 14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

Jesus speaks of “Unforgiveable sin.” 1. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Mark 3:28-29 1. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Mark 3:28-29 2. There is no forgiveness for this sin. 2. There is no forgiveness for this sin. Matt. 12:31-32 Matt. 12:31-32 3. Some have wondered if they have committed this sin? What is it? 3. Some have wondered if they have committed this sin? What is it?

Mark 3: 22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils Jesus was casting out devils by the power of the Holy Ghost. The scribes said that Jesus had Beelzebub (the devil) and was casting out devils by the prince of Beelzebub. The scribes said that Jesus had Beelzebub (the devil) and was casting out devils by the prince of Beelzebub.

What was Jesus doing? Mark 3:. 22 Casting out devils. No doubt about His ability to do what He was doing!!

The Scribes said Mark 3:22 He hath Beelzebub He was casting out devils by the prince of the devils.

They attributed what Jesus did to the devil!

What did Jesus say to show the absurdity of their claim? Mark 3:24 Mark 3:24 How can Satan cast out Satan? How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand! that kingdom cannot stand!

Mark 3:25 If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. v.26 If Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end!

Jesus gives an illustration: Mark 3:27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

What did Jesus then say? Mark 3: 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Jesus said: Mark 3:29 blaspheme He that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, hath never forgiveness, But is in danger of eternal damnation.

What does the word ‘blaspheme’ mean?

“The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is therefore to speak evil of, to reject, or to refuse to accept Him or His work as divine and then to hold Him up as an object of ridicule.” Greek = to speak against, defame, rail, revile English = disrespect, irreverence, sacrilege “great disrespect shown to God or to sacred persons or things ” Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

Mark adds..Mark 3:30 to explain: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

To say that Jesus had an unclean Spirit, that he was casting out devils by the prince of the devil, Beelzebub, was to ‘blaspheme against the Holy Spirit…for which Jesus said was No forgiveness.

Term is not in the Bible Mark 3:28-30 “he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,” Luke 12:10 “…but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.”

The function of the Holy Spirit in the scheme of human redemption is to reveal the will of God to the mind of man. Matt. 7:21 Heb. 5:8-9

All sin is forgiven IF… I John 1:9 all Cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

Notice what the Bible says about: sin in which there is no hope for forgiveness!

1. There is a sin by which we "crucify again" the Son of God Heb. 6:4-6 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

2. There is a sin for which there "no longer remains a sacrifice for sin" - no more sacrifice for sins Heb. 10: 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

This sin is one in which there is no hope for forgiveness because of what he Continues to do!

HOW DO WE COMMIT IT...? HOW DO WE COMMIT IT...? … Note carefully that it is an ongoing sin, a condition of rebellion against God

Committed openly - Committed openly - to an open shame. Heb. 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Committed continually – Heb. 10:26 ("go on sinning", ESV, NASB) deliberately 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Committed knowingly – Heb. 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit Heb. 10: 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

A spiritual condition in which one is doing grave things… Heb. 10:29 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? a. Trampling the Son of God underfoot b. Treating the blood of the covenant (Jesus' blood) a common thing c. Insulting the Spirit of grace

A spiritual condition that left unchecked has grave consequences

# 1 Fearful expectation of judgment Heb. 10:27 “ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

#2Fiery indignation Heb. 10:27 fiery indignation “ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

#3 Worse punishment than death 29 Of how much worse punishment Heb. 10: 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

# 4 Vengeance and judgment by the Lord upon His people Vengeance and judgment by the Lord upon His people He 10: 30-31

It is any sin that we It is any sin that we knowingly refuse to repent of, knowingly refuse to repent of, despite many opportunities! despite many opportunities!

People should be more concerned about any sin... People should be more concerned about any sin... a. They knowingly commit a. They knowingly commit b. They refuse to give up b. They refuse to give up

Whether one is obeying the gospel of Christ for the first time, or has already "tasted the heavenly gift" (He 6:4) and "received the knowledge of the truth" (He 10:26),He 6:4He 10:26 all sins are "unforgiveable" Lk.13:5 all sins are "unforgiveable" unless we repent. Lk.13:5

lead us to repentance...? Are we willing to let the goodness of God lead us to repentance...? Rom. 2: 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, Rom. 2: 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
