Before Reading continued Based on what you answered before, explain the meaning of the common figurative associations presented in the sentences below: – “Her icy stare let me know just how she felt.” – “He acted so cold to me that I knew he was still angry.” – “His face was red and flushed with the heat of anger.” – “The fierce fire in her eyes made her attitude clear.” Be sure to explain what the images of fire and ice represent/symbolize in the sentences.

After Reading With a partner – Discuss and analyze the purpose and possible meanings of the symbols and figurative language in the poem. Annotate the poem based on what you and your partner discussed. – In one sentence, state what the poem is about by answering the question: “What is Robert Frost saying about human emotions in “Fire and Ice”? Fill in your interpretive statement on page 97 of your SpringBoard text.

Choice- Decide by tomorrow For this first assessment of Unit 2, I will be giving each of you a choice: – Group 1: Creative writing- you will complete the SpringBoard assessment: write a short story. The prompt and explanation is on page 126 of your text. – Group 2: Pre-AP writing- if you choose this option, you will be writing a literary analysis for the assessment.
