Henry A. Wallace Was committed to increasing farmer productivity and profitability Founded the first company to commercialize a revolutionary technology - hybrid seed corn Directly linked company success to customer success Pioneer Hi-Bred was founded by Henry A. Wallace in 1926 as the Hi-Bred Corn Company. Wallace did not invent hybrid corn technology, but he saw the tremendous value it promised to farmers in the form of higher yields and increased profitability. Wallace identified a way to develop hybrid seed and distribute it to farmers who were at the time planting open pollinated varieties which yielded significantly less than hybrid corn. Wallace focused on bringing better products to the market that would increase farmer productivity and profitability. That focus remains true to the company today. Our success is tied directly to the success of our customers. Wallace served as Secretary of Agriculture ( ), Vice President of the United States ( ) and Secretary of Commerce (1945 – 1946) under Franklin D. Roosevelt. He also ran for U.S. President of the United State as the Progressive Party candidate (1948). Hybrid corn technology initially got off to a slow start, but in the mid 1930s, two droughts in the United States hastened is adoption when farmers witnessed hybrid corn performing much better than their open pollinated counterparts. 3

Results from these trials confirm the yield advantage of Optimum AQUAmax products over the grower-selected hybrids. They also demonstrate the ability of these hybrids to benefit from increased plant population. 12 bu/acre 19,400 plants per acre (Normal) 12 bu/acre 25,000 plants per acre <<90% Win Advantage for increasing Seeding rate by 5000 sds/a>> Water-limited environments are those in which the water supply/demand ratio during flowering or grain fill was less than 0.66 on a 0-1 scale (1=adequate moisture as determined by Pioneer) using Pioneer’s proprietary EnClass® system and in which the average yield of the commercially available checks was less than 150 bu/acre.  Moisture levels were measured either at trial location or the nearest weather station.  Product performance in water-limited environments is variable and depends on many factors such as the severity and timing of moisture deficiency, heat stress, soil type, management practices, and environmental stress, as well as disease and pest pressures.  All hybrids may exhibit reduced yield under water and heat stress. Individual results may In 223 on-farm comparisons , product advancement tests, and research trials in in  water-limited environments concentrated in NE, CO, KS, OK, TX,  and controlled stress evaluations in  California and Chile. Optimum AQUAmax hybrids were tested against leading commercially-available competitor and Pioneer hybrids.  Optimum AQUAmax hybrids demonstrated a 5.0 percent average yield advantage over the leading commercial checks tested.

They reduce CRW refuge from the current 20% level to a level of 10%, and that 10% is integrated in the bag. Each bag of Optimum AcreMax 1 products satisfy a growers CRW refuge requirement, but because each Optimum AcreMax 1 unit provides protection of above-ground pests, a corn borer refuge is required. Corn borer refuges for Optimum AcreMax 1 products can be placed up to ½ mile away from the Optimum AcreMax 1 field. An corn borer refuge option for Optimum AcreMax 1 products is Optimum AcreMax RW. Optimum AcreMax RW is integrated in a single bag with a combination of a Pioneer hybrid with the Herculex RW trait (90%) and a Pioneer hybrid with glyphosate tolerance only (10%). When used as the corn borer refuge for Optimum AcreMax 1 products, growers for the first time, can deploy integrated CRW technology across 100% of their corn acres that will help maximize farm yields. In areas where above ground pests are not a concern, Optimum AcreMax RW can also be used as a stand-alone product.
