The Tasks They Do Design Construct Supervise Programs and projects to improve the environment and public health.
Famous Male In Field Name: Kevin Olmstead What he did: He created a program called “Who wants to be an engineer?” He started this program after he won 2.1 million dollars on “Who wants to be a millionaire?” This program is to encourage children to become engineers. Where he went to school: He went to school at Western Reserve University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. What his focus is on:Educating people about our environment.
Famous Women in Field: Ellen Henrietta Swallow What did she do? Ellen Henrietta Swallow married the head of the mining department, Robert Richards. That is when she was elected to be a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering. She was the first women elected to be part of the institute. Then in 1876 she opened a Women's Laboratory at MIT. Where did she go to school? She was accepted to Vassar College in 1868 and graduated with her Bachelor's Degree two years later. Then in 1873 she received her Master’s Degree in Chemistry. What is her focus? Her focus was at first teaching women basic and industrial chemistry, biology and mineralogy. What are two other jobs that require a Bachelor’s Degree? 1)Electrical Engineer: They design, develop, teat and supervise the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment. 2)Consultants: they help clients comply with regulations and the clean up of hazardous substances.
Rutgers University Research Projects 1)Rutgers intelligent Transportation Systems (RITS): RITS is a multi- modal transportation infrastructure research and education facility combining a series of technologies, concepts and services to integrate information, vehicles and transportation infrastructure to increase mobility, safety and comfort and reduce pollution and energy waste. 2)Rutgers Asphalt Pavement laboratory (RAPL): RAPL plays an important part in CAIT’s research activities and is located in the CAIT’s facilities at Rutgers University. By housing the latest testing equipment and machinery, the RAPL is a dynamic force in the field of asphalt research.
Interesting Facts About: Mr. Bennert, a professor at Rutgers University. Mr. Bennert is the supervisor of Rutgers’ Asphalt/ Pavement Laboratory. He is also the Geotechnical Laboratory Supervisor. He is a supervisor as well as a researcher for “Investigation into Modified Asphalt Binders for Improved Pavement Performance” He’s a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering His Major was Geotechnical Engineering His Ph.D in Civil Engineering
