1 Center of Mass Lab A.Solid Right Triangle 1. Construct a solid right triangle from a piece of cardboard with a known base and height. 2. Calculate the coordinates of the center of mass. Use the coordinate system shown. In both cases, do the y integral first.

2 Center of Mass Lab B. Semicircular Plate 1. Construct a semicircular plate from a piece of cardboard with a known radius. 2. Calculate the coordinates of the center of mass. Use the coordinate system shown.

3 Determining the C.O.M. by suspension 1.Suspend your objects at one point and let them swing freely until they come to rest. 2.Use a plum bob to draw a vertical line through the suspension point. 3.Pick a new suspension point and repeat. The intersection of the two lines is the center of mass. Measure the coordinates of this point using the same coordinate systems as before. 4.Determine the percent errors using the calculated points as the accepted values.

4 Question Balance a meter stick as shown. Experimentally determine the mass of the stick. Show all work and measurements. Compare your calculated mass with the mass measured on the electronic balance with a percent error.
