Part 3 Hopes and dreams Now, I’d like you to talk about something together for about three minutes (5 minutes for groups of three). Here are some pictures of people who have different hopes and dreams. First, talk to each other about how difficult it might be for these people to make their hopes and dreams come true. Then decide which two are the most likely to become reality.

Part 4 What other ways are there of keeping fit and healthy?
How far do you agree that you have to spend a lot of money to stay fit and healthy? Some people say that nowadays we are more interested in looking after ourselves than looking after others. What’s your opinion? With new technology, people will be able to do almost anything they want to without leaving their homes. What would the disadvantages of this be? Modern medicine is making it possible for people to live longer. Do you think this is a good thing?

It’s a fact that today most of the world’s wealth is in the hands of relatively few people. What could be done about this? Do you think human beings ever learn from the mistakes they have made in the past? Why? / Why not? One day all the nations of the world might live together peacefully. How likely do you think this is?

Some media personalities become very famous. What problems can this bring? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a large number of television channels to choose from? The news is now available 24 hours a day. Do you think this is a good thing? Why? / Why not? Some people say satellite television has led to a loss of national identity. What’s your view?
