1 Brier Hills Recycling Ltd have been established since 1999 when composting operations started. One of the major organic waste processing facilities in Yorkshire they have established a large composting and wood waste recycling facility near Doncaster. The site benefits from excellent access being a short distance from the M18 feeding onto the M62 and M1 allowing easy access for heavy goods vehicles. The site has undertaken considerable infrastructure investment to maximise the site potential for recycling operations. The site benefits from a large concrete area that is used for active composting in windrows. The site also has building structures that are utilised for compost product storage and wood shredding operations. The site operates under full planning permission and waste management license processing 45,000tpa. The compost is produced and certified to BSI PAS 100 and QCP standards. Onsite screening capabilities mean that the compost and wood products Brier Hills Recycling Ltd Managing Director: William Mackintosh Telephone: 01405 818877 or 07968046876 E-mail:wj.mackintosh@btconnect.comwj.mackintosh@btconnect.com Site Address: Brier Hills Recycling, Sandtoft Road, Hatfield, Doncaster DN7 6HA www.brierhillsrecycling.co.uk Company Profile can be screened to a variety of grades suitable for different applications. Agricultural Landscaping Regeneration Topsoil manufacture Growing media Turf growing Mulching Soil conditioning Horticulture Chipboard manufacturers Animal bedding Biofuel Biofilter Regeneration Brier Hills Recycling Ltd have supplied compost to a number of regional regeneration schemes such as Smithy Wood, Brookfield Park, Silver Wood and Frickley Colliery all former colliery sites that have a range of end uses such as public open space, business parks and amenity woodland. The compost used for these trials has been screened to a 40mm grade which is ideal for breaking up heavy colliery shale and poor soils, whilst also adding slow release nutrients, water holding capacity and improved drainage properties. 2 Landscaping Tree Planting BHR30C compost has a mixture of particle sizes which is produced for blending in soil tree pits. The courser texture is ideally suited to breaking up the soil around tree roots and the slow release nutrients help to establish trees successfully. Mulching BHR30C compost can be applied as mulch ideally to a minimum depth of 6 – 8 inches around beds and tree planting. The mulch will suppress weed growth making maintenance easier as well as acting as a slow release nutrient source. It is not suitable for Ericaceous plant species. Soil Conditioner BHR10C or BHR30C composts are ideal for blending and mixing into soils that need a boost. Particularly for heavy clay soils or light sandy soils. Topsoil A range of topsoil is available including BHR30T, BHR30M and BHR10T and BHR10M. The two topsoil ranges are sandy soils and high organic matter soils available in different particle size ranges. Agriculture A 30mm compost grade is produced to PAS 100 and Quality Protocol standards. This material is now classified as a product due to the Compost Quality Protocol. As a result the compost use will not require a paragraph 7a for application to agricultural land. The compost has been used on Brier Hills Recycling Ltd own farm land for 10 years and has proven very successful in raising soil index levels, soil organic matter, earthworm activity and as a result has seen improvements in crop yield. The application rates are restricted to approximately 30t/hectare in nitrogen vulnerable zones. This means that repeated applications have shown the best results with year on year applications. Woodchip Shredded and screened to a variety of specifications to meet chipboard manufacturer requirements. The woodchip is screened to remove any metal foreign objectives. A woodchip specification for animal bedding is also produced. www.brierhillsrecycling.co.uk Company Profile Brier Hills Recycling Ltd Managing Director: William Mackintosh Telephone: 01405 818877 or 07968046876 E-mail:wj.mackintosh@btconnect.comwj.mackintosh@btconnect.com Site Address: Brier Hills Recycling, Sandtoft Road, Hatfield, Doncaster DN7 6HA T: 01405 818877
