3 Standards of satisfactory academic progress Regulation from US Department of Education Students must meet these standards at least annually in order to continue to receive federal financial aid Three standards Pace/completion percentage Maximum time frame Grade point average

4 Quantitative Measures Pace/Completion Percentage Attempted hours Completed hours Repeated hours Includes earned transfer hours Must be at least 67%

5 Quantitative Measures Maximum Time Frame Can be no higher than 150% of length of program Includes earned transfer hours School can choose to only include hours for current major

6 Qualitative Measure Grade Point Average Must be at least as strict as the school’s academic policy Generally limited to GPA at current school Academic renewal has no impact

7 Frequency of review At least annually for most programs Each semester for non-degree and certificate program students Schools that choose to monitor on semester basis may utilize “warning”

8 Other General Points Does not matter if federal aid was received during previous semesters Audited hours do not count as attempted or earned hours

9 Appeal Process Written appeal Personal statement Past/present/future perspective Documented, unexpected extenuating circumstance Transcripts Supporting documentation Degree summary (maximum time frame)

10 Appeal Outcomes Probation Must be able to get back to cumulative standards by end of next payment period

11 Appeal Outcomes Academic plan Signed agreement Must meet prescribed semester standards each payment period Failure to meet standards causes loss of future aid

12 Appeal Outcomes Academic Plan (continued) Can only re-appeal if there is a new, documented, extenuating circumstance per US Department of Education Denial Student remains ineligible for aid Can re-appeal next payment period Meet cumulative standards
