1 "BEST PRACTICES" REPRESENTATIVE OF THE "NEW" PHYSICAL EDUCATION Lesson content addresses one or more district, state or national standards Lesson content identifies specific learning objectives for varied ability levels of students Assessment of student learning is conducted to determine if students have achieved lesson objectives Fitness is “woven” throughout lessons and units of instruction Technology is utilized to augment students’ learning, monitor student performance, & to assess teaching & program effectiveness. Students are challenged to use higher-order thinking (i.e., answer meaningful questions; problem-solve) Students are challenged to work independently and cooperatively with classmates Students are challenge to be responsible for their own learning

Locker room – when to enter; how long; permission to enter during class Before class – entrance, where to go first, attendance procedures Lesson-related: what areas of gym are out-of-bounds, stopping & starting cues, getting journals out & putting them away End-of-Lesson Miscellaneous: how to handle late arrivals; injuries, bathroom, fire alarms
