 The Digestive System  What does the Digestive System do? Your Digestive system digests food to use as energy for your body  There are seven main organs that make up the digestive system are  The Oral Cavity  The Esophagus  The Stomach

 The Small Intestine  The Large Intestine —also called the colon—  The Rectum  The Anus  Inside mouth, stomach, and small intestine there is a lining called the mucosa this lining produces juices which help break down food

 Food in not the form of energy the body can use  These foods must be changed into a form of energy that can be used by the body  This converted energy is then absorbed by the blood and carried through out the body

 The Oral Cavity  Also known as the mouth  The Oral Cavity is were the food is chewed  Saliva is secreted from the mouth to help break down the food  The Esophagus  A Muscular tube in the throat to the stomach  The Stomach  Stores and digests food  The Small Intestine  Absorbs food as nutrients

 Large Intestine  Stores food and wastes and prepares the food to be egested  Rectum  Stores solid feces  Anus  Feces pass through this part and gets egested out of the body

 Eating improper foods  Eating too much (Bulimic)  Eating too little (Anorexic)  Eating too fast or too much  Ripping your stomach slightly

 Eating healthy foods, such as fiber  Do not eat too much meat products  Lots of water  Chew food thoroughly  Eat foods that have enzymes that can help your body  Apple Vinegar

The function of the Excretory System is ridding the body of waste.

 The main organs of the excretory system are the bladder, kidneys, lungs, liver and skin.  The excretory system is like the sewage system because the excretory system gets rid of waste that the body does not need. The body also gets rid of natural gasses which can be fatal if not released from the body.

 One of the main jobs of the kidneys is to filter the waste out of the blood.  The kidneys filter that blood as many as 400 times a day! More than 1 million tiny filters inside the kidneys (nephrons) remove the waste.

 the kidneys: filters that take the waste out of the blood and make urine  the ureters: tubes that carry the urine to the bladder  the bladder: a bag that collects the urine  the urethra: a tube that carries the urine out of the body

 The liver acts as a filter for the blood. It cleans out toxic waste, poisons, and acid in the blood.

 The skin plays a major role in excretion. It helps the body get rid of excess water, salts, and waste such as urea. The urea is a nitrogen waste that is filtered out of the bloodskin

 our lungs also undergo excretion by removing carbon dioxide from the body
