Freight & Sales Tax LO 3 Purchases and sales of merchandise often involve transactions to record freight and sales taxes.

Freight If ownership of the merchandise passes to the buyer when the seller delivers the merchandise to the freight carrier, the terms are said to be FOB (free on board) shipping point. LO 3

Sales Taxes Sellers collect sales tax at the time of a sale on behalf of the state or local taxing authority. LO 3
