3 Long Vowels Long vowels “say their name”. Long vowels sound very similar to the name of the vowel. Long vowels are represented by a macron. (ō,ē,ī,ū)

4 Short Vowels Short vowels do not say their name and do not sound like the name of the vowel. Short vowels are normally represented in between two consonants. Short vowels are represented with a breve. (í,é,á,ó)
