2 18 th and 21 st Amendments  The 18 th amendment was written to prohibit alcohol  The 21 st amendment was written to legalize alchohol but you need to be 21 to drink

3 13 th, 14 th, and 15 th Amendments  The 13 th amendment abolished and continues to prohibit, with limited exceptions, involuntary servitude.  The 14 th amendment was written to protect the civil rights of former slaves  The 15 th banned all racial restrictions on voting

4 Executive Branch  Headed by the president  President is the commander in Chief, Chief Legislator and Head Diplomat  There have been 44 presidents  Described in Article II of the constitution

5 15 th, 19 th, 26 th Amendments  The 26th amendment states that you must be 18 years or older to vote  The 19 th amendment states that no matter what your sex you can vote  The 15 th amendment states that African American men can vote

6 Electoral College The Electoral College consists of the popularly elected representatives (electors) who formally elect the President and Vice president of the united states

7 U.S. Constitution TTTThe Constitution of the United States of America is the supreme law of the United States. TTTThe Constitution provides the framework for the U.S. government

8 James Madison  Considered to be the “father of the constitution”  In 1788 he wrote over a third of the federalist papers

9 Judicial Branch  The Judicial Branch explains and applies the laws  The supreme court was set up by the constitution.  The Supreme Court building is in Washington D.C.
