The Charollais is a breed of sheep originated in France. The breed is centred around the town of Charolles in the Burgundy region. It was first imported to the U.K in 1976.

It has been exported internationally and is commonly used in the U.K. as the second most popular foreign sire after the Texel breed, also originating in France.

Six things about the breed: Medium to large breed. Head is pinkish without any wool. Legs are quite short. Fleece very fine with short staple length. Fast growth rate.

Charolles There are about 3000 people in the town and they have a Earthenware pottery where they make plates and pots that are hand painted. It is also famous for the Charolais Cattle – The white bull.

There are many old buildings in the town that date back to the 15 th Century and was the home of the Duke of Burgundy for many years.

The region of Burgundy was taken from the Burgundy family in 1493 by Austria, then passed to the Spanish kings then became a disputed area between France and Spain. It was not until 1771 that the French got the region back.
