9. 9 Principles of Protected Area Management –Primary management aim is biodiversity conservation and maintenance of ‘naturalness’ –No inhabitants, no logging, reindeer herding and subsistence hunting allowed in the north, fishing almost everywhere –Mainly owned by the State and managed by Metsähallitus, small but often valuable private protected areas –Largely non-intervention management in the North, restoration activities increasing in the South –Recreation and nature tourism growing, park managers manage the infrastructure –No entry fees, every-man’s right highly valued –Major tool is management planning
