The major kinds that affect web use include: Visual – blind, low vision, color-blind Hearing – deafness Motor – inability to use a mouse, slow response time, limited fine motor Cognitive – includes learning disabilities, unable to focus Accessible design benefits everyone! -Personal preference -Older technology -Slow connection speeds -Newer wireless technology Web accessibility is important not only because your content will reach a wider range of audience, but also because correcting web accessibility issues have secondary benefits such as cleaner and more semantic code

8 Usability Although often lumped together, accessibility is not the same as usability Accessibility is about ensuring that all users can access all it’s services & content Usability is ensuring that the process of accessing services & content is as intuitive & efficient as possible

14 The Firefox Accessibility Extension is a Firefox toolbar that allows you to inspect every aspect of a web page to determine its accessibility. A helpful toolbar feature is the Text Equivalents menu which allows you to generate lists of elements such as images and links to see whether each are standards-compliant It allows the user to quickly assess the accessibility of a given Web page, with functions for testing the accessibility of the page's individual elements The Toolbar uses the qualifiers Pass,Fail, Warning, and Check to describe the accessibility of each element.
