1 Machinery Health™ Laser Alignment
Models 8215 and 8225 Laser Heads Introducing the UltraSpec Pro Laser Alignment system from Emerson's Machinery Health Management business. UltraSpec Pro is one of the main products constituting the corrective technologies group at Emerson's Machinery Health Management business. It can be used as a standalone system or it may be combined with other technologies like balancing on one analyzer platform called the UltraSpec Analyzer. UltraSpec Pro laser alignment is a cordless/wireless system based on the tried and true science used by reverse dial indicators. UltraSpec Pro is cordless/wireless laser alignment system made possible by the extremely reliable technology of Radio Frequency (RF) communications. RF technology used for wireless laser alignment is a giant step forward in this market and Emerson's Machinery Health Management business is the first to offer it. RF is not available from other vendors at this time.

2 System Overview Highlights
Simple user interface User guided through alignment process Fully cableless operation with option for RF communication “Autosweep” fits all applications regardless of shaft restrictions: start anywhere, stop anywhere, as little as 30 rotation required High precision laser sensors (resolution better than 1 micron) High speed built-in inclinometers for automated measurement Anti-backlash protection Automated data checking and correction Alternate solutions for restricted machine movement Expand applications to include balancing and vibration

3 Laser Positioning Two key differentiators: Number of lasers
“Two is better than one” Number of measurements Better accuracy Data quality check Universal application Clock Method Sweep Method Single Laser Old Optalign Optalign Pro Rotalign, Rotalign Pro Dual Laser EasyLaser, CombiLaser, SKF Emerson

4 House of Good Alignment
Dual Laser Appeal to common sense Two points determine a line. (without two lasers, you have to do tricks) Appeal to human eye Rough alignment possible 2” Appeal to geometry Better accuracy and resolution House of Good Alignment Appeal to laziness Easier to set up

5 Full Sweep provides complete picture
Sweep vs. Clock Method Clock Method uses only 3 or 4 points All competitors only use 3 (They assume machine is healthy!!!) . 180° 270° 90° 180° 270° 90° ERROR As little as 30 degrees Full Sweep provides complete picture Start anywhere… Stop anywhere…

6 Sweep vs. Clock Biggest differentiator
Our superior method… Gets you in the zone in 1 move Their method… Takes 3-4 tries to get there Do they both work?... Yes. What’s the difference?... SPEED!!! MAN HOURS!!! DOWNTIME!!!

7 Technical Advantages: Tolerance Targets
Improved tolerance targets (patented) Two levels of tolerance Acceptable and excellent Thermal growth compensation Several ways to input Fully compensated in solution - target always (0,0)

8 Technical Advantages: System Resolution
Industry leading resolution: < 1 micron (8225); <0.5 micron (8215) Across ENTIRE target area!!! In 2 (TWO!) Axes!!! I discussed auto sweep feature earlier, because it’s been around awhile. Just to remind you - this is what starts the data collection automatically when you start to move the heads. It also allows you to get very accurate alignments with as little as 45 degrees of shaft rotation. We have added two features to the auto sweep mode with will make life easier and the alignment job faster for a wide range of applications. The first is the averaging sweep mode. This mode is designed for high vibration areas of the plant such that a regular alignment tool would be very difficult to use due to the continual slight movement of the laser and target. Emerson's Machinery Health Management business has discovered a way to average out the vibrations by collecting data from a few sequential rotations of the shaft. This allows you do accurate laser alignment in areas and at times when this was not previously possible. The other innovation is the ability of the analyzer to ignore movement in the wrong direction. Basically, when in the Auto Sweep, Anti-Backlash mode, once you rotate the shaft in one direction (we don’t care which) more than 20 degrees, you’ve made a commitment to that direction. Before that first crucial 20 degrees the shaft can go wherever it wants and the data wont be committed to memory. Then after that 20 degrees, any rotation in the opposite direction will be ignored. This is especially usefully for occasions when the shaft is simply difficult to get going in one direction and so that if I accidentally allow the shaft to slip back a little during a measurement, I don’t automatically introduce errors into my calculation. Our sensors are linearized too!!! EasyLaser CombiLaser SKF Optalign Rotalign Emerson

9 Technical Advantages: Angle Measurement
Patented Accelerometers FAST response Measures gravity directly All others use “bubble” gauges Have to wait for bubble to rise Measures effect of gravity

10 Technical Advantages: Data Quality
Emerson is only system that checks data quality Before you move machine Flags bad data from user error Alerts user to other problems on machine Patented!!! Emerson provides “Predict” mode Know the impact before you move the machine

11 Technical Advantages: Cableless Measurement & Communication
Cables can induce error “cable pull” Break laser beam with cables Cables are cumbersome Wireless is easier & cleaner Cableless MEASUREMENT and Cableless COMMUNICATION Emerson vs. Competition Ludeca/Hyatt have attach transmitter (costs $$$ and room) Other can’t do it at all

12 Don’t be afraid to ‘expose’ the competition Sealed vs. Protected
Our competitors promote IP rating. Their electronics may be sealed, but… their optics are exposed (e.g. naked) Where does it get repaired? At what cost? Emerson’s lasers are Manufactured and Serviced In the USA!!!

13 Selection Criteria Model Target Size Alignment Span Comments 8215
10 x 10 mm Up to 30’ Great for all close coupled jobs, Good for jackshafts. 8225 20 x 20 mm Up to 100’ (Longest span on the market!) Great for ALL jobs. Easier to align lasers on jackshafts. Easier to keep beam on target during job. Only ~$1,000 more

14 Long Spans More Easily Aligned!
More Applications... Shafts Difficult to Rotate Long Spans More Easily Aligned! Some of the new applications that are possible with all of the new features and innovations of the UltraSpec Pro system include Jackshaft alignment where spans are longer than 30 feet. Uncoupled shafts that are difficult to rotate together are accounted for by our new DUAL sensor Dual Pass Mode. Jackshaft Alignment

15 Alignment Demo Options
CSI 2130 Enter job name “MHM” PowerPoint Test Drive Works just like real program Live Demo Make sure to MIS-align equipment before you start (you can’t fix something, if it ain’t broke)
